In Tuzhaimiao County, there is a popular customs of “Baba” in the Lunar New Year. Baba is made of pure glutinous rice, millet, glutinous rice mixed with millet, corn blended with glutinous rice. In addition, it is also made by grinding sticky rice and glutinous rice into powder and pouring into a wooden mold. The mold is carved with patterns. It is called “Tuoba”. Some Tujia ethnic minorities use smartweed bamboo leaves to make pairs, put sesame and sugar into it, which tastes sweet and fragrant. The local name is “Smartweed Bamboo Leaves Baba”. People often roast Baba with charcoal fire, calling Roasted Baba; or put Baba pieces into greens soup, calling cooked Baba; fry with preserved meat, calling fried Baba. If there is too much quantity, the local people can soak it into water tank. In such a way, it will be preserved for 2-3 months, and the local people can eat in transplanting rice seedling.
